Adjusting, and Happy New Things

Since welcoming a baby brother, Simon has had a lot of changes to get used to. He loves baby Anson and loves to be the big brother, but there are some tough changes too. Two-year-olds must be the most reactive but also the most resilient critters on the planet though - because Simon just thinks life is peachy even when he's having a rough & fussy day. Moments after flailing & having a tantrum he'll inevitably look up at me, tears in his eyes, give a cheesy grin and say "Simon's happy."

Every time the midwife has stopped by for a follow-up on Anson, Simon excitedly talks and shows all his toys to "friend Ami." Every time a friend comes by to bring us a meal, Simon smothers him or her with chatter and toys and eager declarations of his big-brother-ness. And sometimes a visitor will bring a gift or a treat for Simon, knowing that he might need a little extra love & focus & fun. "Friend Lupe" (one of Simon's favorite babysitters & our friend) brought us dinner last night, and also had some carrot cake she'd made especially for Simon to enjoy. He did.
Another good part about having a new baby is that Adam stays home from work every day...for now. Even though he's busy trying to keep all three of us more needy family members taken care of, he still makes time just to play & wrestle with his big boy.

Green Brother Day

Green was the color of the day for these brothers...Simon chose his clothes (green diaper and socks too, not visible in this picture) and the green diaper cover for Anson.
The brothers in their green "little g" diapers...Simon's are much more faded after being washed & dried on the clothesline (in the NM sun!) for a while now!
Simon's upwardly mobile :)
All the Lange boys...aren't I a lucky gal to live with these three?! (I wonder who chose Daddy's green shirt?)

Big Brother

Yesterday we welcomed little Anson Emory to the family - so now Simon is a big brother and THRILLED with his new position. From the moment he first saw Anson, the "belly baby" up till now, he wanted to be right next to him. Every meal we've eaten since Anson's birth has been with Simon's high chair pulled up right next to wherever I'm sitting with Anson, b/c Simon can't stand to be in the kitchen if we're in the living room.

Right when Simon got home from being with friends - he insisted on sitting "on mama" right by the "new baby Anson." "We have a new baby now!" Simon said. "I need that baby." "I would likey holdy baby."
Simon's first chance to hold the baby...Anson only about 3 hours old.
There are his ears! It thrilled Simon to find all the baby body parts.
Big brother kisses for the little one.
