Happy Dreams in 2008

One of those sweet little parenting moments happened in the middle of the night after our New Year's Eve party. We finally said farewell to friends after several hours of munching & sipping & game-playing, and closed down the house for bed at 2:30AM or later.

Every night before Adam & I turn down the heat & climb into bed we go make sure Simon is tucked in cozy with blankets and say good-night one more time. Often, he doesn't budge. Every now & then he'll shift a little. Very rarely he'll say something.

At almost 3AM on New Year's Day as we went to bed for the night, I tucked him in warm with his blankets & whispered "good night" as I began to close the door. I heard him say something. "What sweetie?" I asked, and stepped over by the edge of the crib. He had turned his face up toward me. He repeated what he'd said before, "happy dreams." I smiled & said "happy dreams - that's right." I told him good-night and that I loved him, and he snuggled back down in his blankets.

He may have been talking in his sleep, I don't know. But most nights when I put him to bed the last thing I say as I close the door is "happy dreams, Simon." Evidently when I tucked him in again before heading to bed for the New Year's night, he wanted to make sure I wished him happy dreams again. Love that kid!
